More and more people all over the world are learning Chinese now as the development of Chinese economy and the Chinese-promotion of Chinese government.
Hanyu belongs to Sino-Tibetan and is a language with tones. Hanyu took pinyin which is based on the Roman letters as the phonetic symbol. There are 26 pinyin letters in pinyin phonetic system. These 26 pinyin letters compose 21 initials and 38 finals. Generally speaking, a Hanyu pinyin syllable is composed by a initial, a final and a tone or a final with a tone only. There are four tones in pinyin: flat, up, curve and down. The typical pinyin syllable is composed by a initial, a final and a tone.
The writing system of Hanyu is characters. Chinese character is a kind of phono-ideo-graphic language which means it is phonographic and ideographic both. Chinese characters are all in block shape and take the same area on the paper. The basic unit of Chinese character is stroke. The strokes make up of the radicals. Each Chinese character can be considered as on or some radicals. There is a certain order to write strokes and radicals in a Chinese character. So from stroke to radical to character is the traditional and effective order to learn Chinese characters.
The most important feature of Hanyu grammar is that there are not form changes. The nouns words do not have case, gender and number changes. The verb words do not change according to the person or tense. Another feature is omitting. The inessential parts can be omitted which will not influence the communication.
